The Rise of Vegan Skincare: How To Go Cruelty-Free

The Rise of the Vegan Beauty Industry

The beauty industry has been expanding as of late with the rise in vegan & cruelty-free products. You may have already seen your favorite brands start to include cruelty-free and vegan options- y'know, the little green leaf, bunny ears, or sometimes the word CLEAN on the packaging. The increase in the variety of vegan products and non-animal tested products is proof that the demand is greater than ever before for cruelty-free and vegan skincare! There is no denying that there is a ton of cruelty-free and vegan beauty products available today, from face scrubs, to shampoos, to hair care, vegan and cruelty-free products can be found throughout the beauty industry!

What Makes Vegan Beauty Products Special

The ingredients in Bryght products are vegan and cruelty-free. While sourcing vegan and cruelty free alternative ingredients can come at an extra expense to the manufacturer, it is the right choice to make. From the environment to the climate crisis and sustainability, we are reminded more and more every year that we must prioritize the health of the Earth- and that starts with taking care of animals. Not only are vegan beauty products the greener choice, but it's a lot less... gross. Vegan means that there is no animal products in the formulation. This may include any area of an animal (gross, right?), such as the animal skin, feathers, hairs and scales. It may also include water or alcohol that come from animals. WHAT?! Yeah. Are you eating? You may want to stop for a minute. Let me tell you a story of how we formulated the Bryght products. We were very intentional with the ingredients. We wanted every. single. ingredient. to have a purpose (aw). We know every ingredient in our products, what they are, and why they are in there. This meant going back and forth with our chemist and lab dozens of times. We knew we wanted the products to be natural, but we hadn't really decided on vegan yet, when we were going through yet another list of ingredients and sample products from the lab. We would research each ingredient to ensure it met our standards- and we were picky. We checked that each ingredient wasn't in any weird medical studies around the world claiming cancer (I'm looking at you, hydroquinone), and that it was the best option to deliver high-value results. Anyways, we came across an ingredient called Allantoin. After some research, and calling the chemist to confirm, we made a shocking discovery. Allantoin is a byproduct of uric acid that can be extracted from urea. UM, EWWWW. Immediately we had a meeting and decided to go vegan. Why would we need PEE in our skincare? I can barely handle a diaper change... We INSISTED our chemist find a vegan, plant-based alternative. And they did- turns out, allantoin can also be sourced from plants- the comfrey plant, which has healing and soothing properties. And that, kids, is why you must be diligent in researching ingredients of what you're putting on your body, and making sure the companies making those products are not using animal alternatives with the same name to save a dollar or two.

Get the Skin You Deserve

It is imperative that you understand how your body reacts when exposed to certain things. This is why it is important to know what ingredients you should avoid or look for in a skincare product. From cleanser to moisturizer, to SPF, there are a couple of things to consider when looking for a new vegan product to use:

Get to Know Your Face

• Ask yourself, what is happening on my face that makes me look tired, red, dry, or sore?

• Identify which areas of your face tend to have more dullness, darkness, or redness than the rest.

What Makes Cruelty-Free Products Different

Your skincare products should not hurt or kill animals. Simple as that. Vegan products do not contain any animal ingredients. If you are looking to be vegan and cruelty-free, this is the way to do it. The FDA has regulations to make sure that yucky animal ingredients are not put in food without being publicly known. It is our opinion that companies should not add them to any beauty products either. Please see our great list of cruelty-free beauty products in the following paragraphs, we have compiled this list of the most reputable and vegan beauty brands on the market today. Us included ;)

Why Cruelty-Free Products Are Important

Not only are they all-natural and non-toxic, but cruelty-free products also that have far better results for you. They are also more ethical. Think of it like this: Vegan products are natural and animal friendly. Whereas cruelty-free products are ethical and cruelty-free! Crazy that this isn't the norm, right?
